Mobile app development for iOS and Android
JasperByte builds cross-platform mobile applications with React Native for businesses in Calgary, Alberta and across Canada. One codebase ships to both the App Store and Google Play, which means one timeline and one budget instead of two, without the app feeling like a website in a wrapper.
What this involves
Building the same app twice, natively, doubles your cost and guarantees the two versions drift apart. React Native removes that duplication for the vast majority of business applications while still giving you native navigation, gestures, camera, push notifications, and offline storage.
Where a feature genuinely needs native code — a specific SDK, heavy background processing — we write that module natively and bridge it. The point is to use one codebase where it helps and drop to native where it matters.
What you get
- Cross-platform appsOne React Native codebase, released to both the App Store and Google Play.
- Offline-first behaviourLocal storage and sync so the app keeps working in a basement, a warehouse, or a dead zone.
- Push notificationsSegmented, scheduled, and deep-linked into the right screen rather than dumping users on the home tab.
- Device integrationsCamera, location, biometrics, Bluetooth, and barcode scanning wired in properly.
- Backend and APIThe server side that the app depends on, built alongside it rather than assumed.
- Store submissionApp Store and Play Console setup, review submission, and the fixes when a reviewer pushes back.
How we work
From scope to production.
Scope
Screens, flows, and platform requirements agreed up front, including what genuinely needs to be native.
Build
Two-week cycles with TestFlight and internal Play builds you can install and actually use on your own phone.
Ship
Store submission, review handling, staged rollout, and crash reporting from day one.
Operate
Release management as the platforms change, because iOS and Android will both break something eventually.

FAQ
Common questions about mobile app development.
Should we build native or cross-platform?
For most business applications, cross-platform with React Native is the right answer: one codebase, one timeline, and a genuinely native feel. Fully native makes sense for graphics-intensive apps, games, or products built around a platform-specific capability. We will say so if that is your situation rather than selling you what we prefer.
How much does a mobile app cost?
A focused app with accounts, a handful of core screens, and a backend usually starts in the mid tens of thousands. Complexity comes from integrations and offline behaviour more than from screen count, so we scope those explicitly before quoting.
How long until it is in the app stores?
Typically twelve to twenty weeks for a first release, including store review. Apple review is usually days rather than weeks now, but we plan for a rejection and a resubmission because it happens to everyone.
Do you handle App Store and Google Play submission?
Yes. We set up the developer accounts in your name, prepare the listings, handle submission and review responses, and hand you the keys. The accounts are yours, which matters if you ever change developers.
Can the app work offline?
Yes, and for field, warehouse, and healthcare work it usually should. We design local storage and a sync strategy up front, because retrofitting offline support into an app that assumed connectivity is genuinely painful.
