Healthcare software development

JasperByte builds healthcare software for Canadian providers and health technology companies: patient-facing portals, booking and intake systems, clinical workflow tools, and integrations with the systems that hold health records. We build to Canadian privacy expectations under PIPEDA and provincial health information legislation such as Alberta’s Health Information Act.

What we build for healthcare

  • Patient portals and bookingSelf-service appointment booking, reminders, forms, and secure messaging that reduce front-desk load.
  • Intake and formsDigital intake replacing clipboards, with data landing structured in the right system instead of retyped.
  • Clinical workflow toolsInternal applications for scheduling, triage, and care coordination, designed around real clinical routines.
  • System integrationsConnections to EMR and practice management systems, including HL7 and FHIR interfaces where available.
  • Access control and auditRole-based permissions and complete access logging on anything touching personal health information.

What makes this sector different

Health data has the strictest handling requirements of anything we work with. Encryption in transit and at rest is the floor. What actually matters is access control granular enough to enforce who may see which record, and audit logging complete enough to answer that question a year later.

Canadian data residency is usually non-negotiable. We deploy to Canadian AWS regions and document exactly where personal health information is stored, processed, and backed up, so your privacy officer can complete their assessment with facts rather than assurances.

We build software; we are not your privacy consultants and we do not certify compliance. We build systems designed to satisfy PIPEDA and provincial requirements, and we work with your privacy officer or legal counsel who owns that determination. Anyone promising you guaranteed compliance from a development contract is overselling.

FAQ

Healthcare questions we get asked.

Is your software PIPEDA compliant?

Compliance belongs to your organisation, not to a piece of software — but we build to support it. That means Canadian data residency, encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access control, complete audit logging, and documented data flows your privacy officer can assess. We work alongside whoever owns that determination.

Can you integrate with our EMR?

It depends on what your vendor exposes. Some offer modern FHIR APIs, others HL7 interfaces, and some are effectively closed. We investigate the integration surface first and tell you honestly what is possible before designing anything around it.

Where is patient data stored?

In Canadian AWS regions by default, with backups kept in-country as well. We document storage, processing, and backup locations explicitly so it can go straight into a privacy impact assessment.

Do you work with private clinics as well as larger providers?

Yes. A lot of practical value in healthcare is unglamorous — online booking that works, intake that is not a clipboard, reminders that reduce no-shows. Those are well within reach for an independent clinic.
