What makes this sector different
Legal work runs on privilege and confidentiality, which shapes every technical decision. Access control has to be per-matter, not per-firm. Audit trails need to show who opened what. And any AI component must run in a way that does not put privileged material into a system that trains on it — which is a specific configuration decision, not a default.
Law society requirements around record retention and client file handling vary by province. In Alberta that means working within Law Society of Alberta expectations for file retention and trust accounting adjacency. We build to whatever your firm’s obligations require rather than assuming a generic model.
The largest practical wins are usually unglamorous: intake that captures the right information the first time, document assembly that removes an hour of copy-editing per agreement, and search that actually finds the precedent. Is it safe to use AI with privileged documents?
It can be, with the right configuration — API tiers that do not train on your data, retrieval running inside your own infrastructure, and documented data flows. It is not safe to paste privileged material into a consumer chatbot. We build the former and will tell you plainly which parts of a workflow should not involve a model at all.
Can you integrate with Clio or our practice management system?
Usually yes, where the platform exposes an API. We audit the integration surface first and are candid when a system is effectively closed, because that changes what is worth building.
Can you automate our document templates?
Yes, and it is often the highest-return project for a firm. We turn your existing precedents into templates driven by matter data, with conditional clauses, so a document arrives 90% complete and a lawyer reviews rather than rebuilds it.
How do you handle client confidentiality?
Per-matter access control, encryption at rest and in transit, complete access logging, and Canadian data residency. We also keep our own access minimal and time-limited — we do not need standing access to your production data to build software for you.
